In 1977, Crozer Fox built his first boat, an Able 20, in his garage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. The stern of the boat touched the rear wall of the garage and the bow was six inches from the door. To plane a plank, he cut a shoebox-size hole in the door, covered it with a hinged flap, and fed the board through.

Twenty-seven years and 52 boats later, Crozer passed away and the search for his boats began. Like most of the boats that came out of Southwest Harbor during that time, Ables were works of art. If you own one, have seen one or ever sailed on one, we invite you to become a part of the story and upload photos and text. Please email your story to porterfox at gmail dot com and attach any pictures. We’ll upload it to the site as soon as possible.
